Titans QB Zach Mettenberger’s return to game on Sunday will likely be delayed due to ankle injury

Zach Metttenberger has been cleared to play against the Bengals after suffering a toe injury during Sunday’s victory over the Steelers.

The Titans quarterback suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s 30-24 loss to the Steelers, and Titans coach Mike Mularkey confirmed Monday that Mettenbergers return to the field will likely take several days.

“Zach is not going to play tonight,” Mularkeys said on Monday’s NFL Network.

“He has an ankle injury.

So we’re going to monitor him.

He’ll be fine.”

The Titans have been struggling mightily this season with injuries.

They have had to rely on rookie running back Rashad Jennings, who is now suspended indefinitely, to fill in.

Jennings has struggled to stay healthy, and Mularks decision to leave Jennings out of practice and leave Jennings and Jennings alone for practice makes it difficult for him to continue playing.

“He has a lot of work to do, but we’re hoping that he can be ready for Sunday,” Mulesaid.

Jennings did not play in the Titans final three games before being released in January.

He was listed on the injury report Sunday but the Titans did not provide a reason for his absence.

The Steelers are now 3-1 and sit atop the AFC North, but the Steelers defense has been the team to beat this season.

They allowed just three touchdowns and just five points in their final two games.
