Robert S. Daugherty, of Rockville, Md., has been awarded a Bronze Star Medal of Valor, the Army announced Tuesday.

Daugherty was awarded the Medal for actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He was part of the unit that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011.

He died in Afghanistan in 2014.

Ducher is the third recipient of the Bronze Star medal in U.s. history.

In 2015, Army Maj. Gen. John M. Riggs, a former commander of U. S. Army Central Command, received the Silver Star for actions in Afghanistan.
