How to deal with a new Florida law that prohibits transgender people from using public bathrooms that match their gender identity

FLORIDA — A bill that would allow transgender people to use the public restroom of their choice has passed the state legislature.

The bill was introduced by Republican state Rep. Michael Ritze, who previously said he supports allowing transgender people the right to use facilities that match the gender with which they were born.

He told WFTV, a local news station in Florida, that he hopes the bill will pass the House by the end of the month.

The Associated Press reports that the bill has garnered widespread support in Florida and other states where the issue is hot.
